Essendon coach James Hird believes tall trio Patrick Ryder, Tom Bellchambers and Joe Daniher could all play against West Coast when the Bombers travel to Patersons Stadium next Thursday.

Bellchambers was forced out of the side a fortnight ago due to the debut of Joe Daniher who booted three goals on Saturday night in his second match at AFL level.

The ruckman was Essendon’s best player in the team’s VFL loss to Williamstown on Sunday afternoon collecting 23 possessions and putting his name back in line for a senior recall.

Hird said after Saturday night’s match the club would consider playing all three talls against the Eagles.

“The good thing about having that depth with our height is that we can rotate guys through and play the guys that are not only playing really well but have a high level of training as well,” Hird said.

“Tom Bellchambers has had a pretty good season; we have given him a week off last week from all football and he will play reserves.”

“Making predictions for the rest of the year would be silly.”

Defender Tayte Pears collected 27 disposals against Gold Coast in just his second AFL match of the season after showing strong form in the VFL.

Hird said he was pleased to see Pears who has suffered a number of setbacks over the last three seasons performing at his best.

“He is a great story Tayte, he is a terrific person who has worked very hard on his game,” Hird said.

“It is just good to see a guy get knocked back, knocked down, get injured… to watch him tonight back to his athletic best that he was three years ago and confident with the ball is exciting for him and exciting for us.”

“I am extremely happy for Tayte that he has been able to come out and play that way.”
