Essendon defender Michael Hurley settled in the back line for his best season in the red and black to put his name among the contenders for the 2014 Crichton Medal.

Hurley showcased his ability to beat some of the best forwards in the league throughout the season and more important provide drive out of the back half of the ground.

His strong marking ability overhead as well as precision by foot led to him becoming an important member of the defence.

The 24-year-old’s stand out game of the season came in round 22 against Gold Coast when he moved from defence to attack in the final term for two goals and 27 disposals.

Throughout the season he averaged a career high 19 disposals a game and 6 marks per game.

Expect to see Hurley rating among the top contenders for this season’s best and fairest award.
