Long serving Essendon trainer John Kilby was awarded the Support Staff Leadership Award at Tuesday night’s AFL Coaches Association Awards.

Premiership winning coach Kevin Sheedy presented Kilby with the honour in front of 400 guests at Atlantic.

Affectionately known as ‘Killer’ around the club, Kilby has been a trainer with the Bombers since 1968.

Kilby said even after 46 years he still enjoyed playing his part within the team.

“The reason why I enjoy it immensely is the people that I am involved with,” Kilby said.

“The club has been terrific to me and I like to think I have gone and given the service back to the club that they have given me over the years.”

Still an integral part of the club’s support staff Kilby is in charge of doing the strapping for a number of players throughout the club.

The club congratulates John on this great acknowledgement of his long service as a trainer.
