Essendon midfielder David Myers is confident his side can take another step forward in season 2015 based on the performance of the group during the pre-season.

Marty Gleeson, Lauchlan Dalgleish, Elliott Kavanagh and Zach Merrett are just a few of the young Bombers to have impressed the senior midfielder over the last few weeks.

Myers said the list was in good shape to build on the elimination final loss suffered at the hands of North Melbourne last season.

“The young guys are coming along really well and there is going to be more pressure from underneath again,” Myers said.

“I don’t think it is any secret that is what leads to a good year, a good side and creates a good culture.”

“There has been a massive focus on our preparation and our fitness levels to make sure we don’t get comfortable with where we are at.”

Following a heavy running block of training during December the focus has shifted to more match practice and simulation drills on the track.

As a senior member of the club’s leadership group Myers stressed the importance of the group maintaining a high standard on the training track.

“We need to make sure we don’t get comfortable with where we are at so we need to continue to keep driving to improve to make sure we can take that next step during the year,” Myers said.

“We are hoping that if we consistently train at a higher standard then that will mean we will consistently play at a higher standard for longer periods.”

“Our best is good enough but we need to be able to do it for four quarters and I know that is a cliché but it is the reality of what we do.”

Fans are encouraged to come and watch the boys in action this pre-season at our Australia Day Open Training session from 9am on January 26.
