Essendon midfielder David Myers has suffered a minor setback to his pre-season campaign suffering an ankle injury at training.

Myers has taken part in a modified training program since suffering the injury during a training drill last week.

Club doctor Bruce Reid said he was confident the injury would have no major impact upon the midfielder’s preparations for the 2015 season.

“A week ago just in a drill someone fell across his ankle so that has put him out of action for this week,” Reid said.

“We expect him to be running by the end of this week and back in full training by the end of next week.”

Big man Jake Carlisle is also set to return to full training after overcoming a bout of patella tendonitis that has hampered his pre-season training.

Reid said he expected Carlisle to return to training with the main group at some stage this week.

“He had pretty severe patella tendonitis and it is the sort of injury that you can not get better during the season,” Reid said.

“We have taken our time but he has now ticked off top end speed running and has join in skills so we expect him to be fully back in soon.”

“We expect him fully back in so he gets a good six week’s training before the first game.”

It was another significant milestone for Alex Browne in his return from a knee reconstruction as he joined teammates in tackling drills for the first time on Monday.

Browne is continuing his comeback from a knee reconstruction suffered in the 2014 NAB Challenge match against the Gold Coast.

“Browney is in with full tackling today so he is basically back in full training now,”

“He will be right for the start of the season as he has done a lot of cross training.”

Kurt Aylett will miss the next six weeks of training as he recovers from a tear to his hamstring a fortnight ago.
