Essendon’s playing group are set to return to the club tomorrow ahead of next week’s season opener against Sydney.

Midifield star Dyson Heppell revealed that despite the four-day break, he was continuously working on his rehabilitation from a knee injury to be available in time for the Round 1 clash.

“We’ve been on a four day break and kick back in to training tomorrow,” Heppell said.

“I’ve been ticking over my rehab a bit so I didn’t really get a break.

“But it’s a little bit of tapering now and we’ll build in to next week and fire away for Round 1.”

The 22-year-old commended the addition of Adam Cooney to the playing list, praising his first pre-season campaign as a Bomber.

“Coons has been outstanding for us,” Heppell said on Triple M radio on Tuesday afternoon.

“His pre-season has been sensational and he’s really added a lot of ‘zip’ to the side with his outside speed.

“He’s also pretty laidback type of character and he’s really good fun around the club, so we’ve really enjoyed having him here.”

Heppell urged all supporters to sign up as a member ahead of the Round 1 clash against Sydney at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 4 April.

“This Is Our Fabric is our new membership campaign and we’re certainly encouraging all our supporters to get on board this year and sign up as a member,” Heppell said.

“We’re looking forward to a really exciting season and we want you to get on board with the boys as a member.”
