The week spent up in the Northern Territory by the Club’s youngest players may become an annual trip.

It provided a unique experience for the second to fourth year players and involved both a rigorous training regime as well as many community based activities.

Physical Performance Manager - and the brains behind the whole program - Justin Crow, believes the importance of the trip surpasses just the physical demands, with the players to be tested on a number of different levels.

Crow also believes it is important for the younger players to form a relationship with a community that has been a vital part of the Club’s history.

“The trip is really around development, that’s why we have our second to fourth year players up here and integrating with the community in the Top End,” Crow said.

“The Club has a really strong heritage and links with the Darwin, Tiwi and Northern Territory Communities and we’re here to put some work in strengthening those.

“We’re looking to get our young players through some sort of initiation/rite of passage into the Club and this camp is a really great vehicle for us to do that.

“Part of the reason is that the Northern Territory is such a place that’s closely related to the Club’s values.”

The boys will also be put to the test with hard training sessions and other physically demanding programs set to prepare them for the 2016 season.

The extra time spent training over the week will give the younger players a strong advantage before the whole group returns for training on the 23rd of November.

“We’re building into our training for this season, we’ve got a couple of weeks until the older players start back so the young guys will be looking to get a head start and build some really solid foundations ahead of the Christmas period,” Crow said.

“The heat really provides an extra challenge for our guys and they’re going to embrace that.

“We’re going to deliberately put them in situations where they will be uncomfortable.”

The group is currently participating in a trek and camping exercise, before a visit to the Tiwi Islands at the end of the week.
