Picks four and five will get a lot of the attention but selections in the middle and late rounds can also have a big effect on a clubs future.

When Essendon make its two second round selections, it’s likely they will have a number of quality candidates to choose from.

Jade Gresham is an excellent ball winner.  He won the TAC Cup Coaches award and was also Vic Metro’s MVP.

He is only small and that can be a deterrent for some clubs, but the strength of his form in 2015 may extinguish any doubts.

“He’s enthusiastic, really good skills and he kicks goals so he’d be a good player given the Bombers probably don’t have the smaller types around goal – early on, he might start as that small forward,” Draft expert Callum Twomey said.

“We’ve seen Lewis Taylor get through to the late 20’s before.”

Callum Ah Chee is tipped to go in the middle of the first round, but if he does slide and the Bombers call his name – fans will enjoy watching him play.

Ah Chee thrust himself in to the spotlight with a huge mark at the MCG in a match for the Academy against the Northern Blues.

Recruiters though had known of his talents well before.

“He’s an exciting player when he’s up and going,” Twomey said.

“He’s a forward flanker who can play up on the wing.  He’s probably better when he’s streaming towards goal than away from it at the moment.

“He can play in a range of positions, pretty agile, versatile and runs a 2.88 second 20 metre sprint.  The AFL environment will suit him and he’s a really good kid too.”

If the Bombers prefer a rebounding defender, Riley Bonner would be a potential candidate.

He possesses a long kick and is adept on both sides of his body.

“He’d be perfect if you’re looking for a rebounding defender,” Twomey said.

“He’s one of the best kicks in the draft.  He’s damaging and he’s able to take the game on.

“He’s tall too, he’s about 191/192 centimetres which makes him an appealing prospect for clubs.”
