Darcy Parish and Charlie Curnow.  That is the ideal combination for Essendon to select with picks four and five in the National Draft according to draft expert Callum Twomey.

The Bombers will use their best allotment of picks in recent memory and the back to back nature of picks four and five gives them some flexibility.

Parish is regarded as possibly the best midfielder in the draft.

He is a two time All-Australian under 18 player with the ability to win the contested ball and be damaging on the outside.

“If I was the Bombers and I had the chance to take Darcy Parish I would because I think they need the midfield depth,” Twomey said.

“I think beyond Brendon Goddard and Jobe Watson there is probably a little bit of reliance on Dyson Heppell in that midfield group.

“Goddard and Watson are in to their 30’s now and getting to the end of their careers so to bring in someone like Darcy Parish would offer the midfield a real boost.”

Twomey expects the Bombers to use at least one of their top picks on a key position player.

Injuries have impacted some of the taller prospects this year, making it harder to get a read on their form and potential.

Charlie Curnow is one of those prospects who was sidelined but Twomey said he could play an important role in the Essendon forward line.

“I think they need to go a tall and I would probably go for Charlie Curnow if he was available,” he said.

“I think he’s powerful.  I think he has the impact around goal.

“It would be really exciting to match him up around goal with Joe Daniher and see how they go.”
