Chairman Lindsay Tanner has spoken of his excitement for the next great chapter in Essendon’s history, at the Club’s season launch.

More than 400 players, staff and fans were in attendance at the event.

Tanner said the Club’s collective strength had shone through during a difficult period and the resilience of the membership base had provided further inspiration.

He called on the Essendon family to maintain its commitment as the Club enters a new and exciting era.

“Essendon is a place where we can all belong, and where we can all share in a collective dream,” Chairman Lindsay Tanner said.

“Tonight I’m asking you to continue supporting our great club with all the passion you have.

“And more than this, I’m calling on you to be part of the future.

“Come with us on this journey. Be there at the MCG for our first home game of the season as we stand up together for our future.

“I know the depth of passion and commitment that Essendon people have for their Club, and that’s why I am confident we will build a stronger and more successful football club for many years to come.”

Tanner outlined the Club’s priorities for the season including continuing support for the 34 suspended players, maximising the development and playing performance of the 2016 squad and maintaining the Club’s strong financial position.

“We believe that if we deliver on these priorities in the short term, the Club will be in the best possible position in the long term,” Tanner said.

“The ongoing support from both members and partners is critical to our stability and strength as a Club.”

The Bombers enter the 2016 season with a new Coach, a new Captain and a host of new players, including some top end draft picks

“Woosha, we wish you, Brendon Goddard and the team all the best for the season ahead,” Tanner said.

“We know we are going to face many challenges this year, both on and off the field, but with your leadership and fortitude we are confident the team will take many positive steps forward this season, regardless of what happens on the scoreboard.

“I would like to thank the ten most recent additions to our playing group and officially welcome them to our Club. You have all arrived under unique circumstances and at differing stages of your career but we look forward to you donning the sash and representing our Club with pride.

“There is no doubt there are going to be many great stories that will be written this season as we start the next chapter in our history.

“How many people in this room can say I was there when Coleman kicked 100, ‘Sheeds’ waved his jacket, Tim Watson hurdled an opponent and ‘Longy’ kicked that goal in the 93 Grand Final.

“And how many will also be able to say they were there when Parish played his first game, Zach Merrett kicked a brilliant goal on the run, Joe Daniher kicked his first big bag of ten and Fantasia had five bounces down the wing.”
