Orazio Fantasia has received the ‘Bruce Heymanson – Best Team Player’ award at this year’s Crichton Medal.

The youngster from South Australia had his most consistent and impressive season to date in 2016, showcasing his exciting speed and natural football smarts.

With his first full pre-season behind him, Fantasia started the year playing off the half-back line and through the middle with great success.

In the opening four games of the season he averaged 25-disposals a game, placing him among the top ranked players at the club.

However, it was a move into the forward line that really saw the 20-year old hit his straps, as he proved to be a danger man for the opposition defenders.

Fantasia finished the season with 29 goals from just 21 games, putting him in second place on Essendon’s goal scoring list.

Aside from his exploits on field, Fantasia also demonstrated many of the qualities and values expected from an Essendon footballer.

Not just a popular figure within the football club, Fantasia was often the last player out at training meeting and talking with the fans.

Genuine and kind hearted, Fantasia is a worthy recipient of the award.
