Jobe Watson says he is excited about resuming his football career with the Bombers.

The three time best and fairest winner reconfirmed his commitment to the Club this morning.

Watson has split his time between training with teammates in Melbourne and travelling overseas.

"I did a lot of training when I was over there (New York). Even if I wasn't going to play, I prepared myself to come back to play. I didn't want the decision not to be mine," he said.

"I'm extremely excited to do so and am really looking forward to it.

"I was able to go away and have such wonderful experiences in a different world, and I'd lived in this football world since I was 17 years old.

"I came back and wanted to see how I was feeling when I was back in Melbourne and how being back home felt for me.

"That was probably the last thing along with being able to speak with John (Worsfold) one on one and I believe in where he's going and where he's taking the Club and I'm excited to be coached by him."

Watson said he agonised over the decision to return throughout the last nine months.

"I'm content with the decision I have made, it has been a long one," Watson said.

"I leant either way for a long time.

"Certainly when I left I didn't think I would be back playing AFL."

Watson sought counsel from his New York housemate before reaching his final decision.

"It opened up my perspective on the world and on life," Watson said.

"What we've been through - so much of it is about speculation and what might happen and what's going to happen.

"If you spend your life living in that world of speculation, we miss the moments.  I removed myself from it and I just lived in moments and that was liberating for me."

The 2012 Brownlow medallist returned to Melbourne earlier this month after spending part of his year in New York.

Essendon's 2016 Captain Brendon Goddard said he is thrilled at the prospect of running out alongside Watson next season.

"Over the moon. It's obviously a really personal decision for him to make and, obviously, he had to weigh up a lot. Obviously, the time is right now to announce it," he told The Footy Show.

"I couldn't be happier. Quality person, individual, footballer, captain, a good friend.

"It's (captaincy) up to him - well, not really up to him, to be honest. It will come down to a vote from the players. He might just want to come back and play footy."

Watson is the tenth Bomber to recommit to the Club since Heath Hocking first stated his intention to return in April.
