New recruit, Matt Guelfi, has the potential to play a number of roles for the Essendon Football Club, according to Senior Coach, John Worsfold.

Guelfi was selected by the Bombers with pick 76 at the 2017 NAB AFL Draft.

“Matt is a couple of years older than the other boys and a really versatile player,” Worsfold said.

“He can play through the midfield, come forward and have an impact as well, he works hard and will bring a lot of versatility to our side.

“We can really put him in a number of positions.”

The three players selected by Essendon at the Draft are all currently living interstate and will begin the move to Melbourne in the coming days.

“The boys will get a lot of information from the Club over the next day or so, as they get ready to come over. They have three weeks leading up to Christmas so we will get them over as quick as we can,” Worsfold said.

“They won’t be straight into full training, they will do an induction, show them around the club and get them to find their feet a little and then slowly get them going.

“They will do some training this week but not until Wednesday I think.”

List and Recruiting Manager, Adrian Dodoro, said the way Guelfi attacks the game makes him a handy addition to the Bombers midfield.

“Our last pick was Matt from the Claremont Football Club,” Dodoro said.

“He’s a guy who has missed out on a couple of drafts.

“He can play mid, back and forward, he’s just a determined young man.

“When you are losing guys of the quality as Benny Howlet and Heath Hocking, we really wanted to add some grunt to our midfield and he will certainly give us that.

“He won’t leave no stone unturned in having a great AFL career hopefully.”
