The Bombers’ tight-knit playing group will continue to drive the culture of the club, according to captain Dyson Heppell.

Following a recent camp in Barwon Heads, the group returned with a clear understanding of what they wanted to achieve in 2019 and beyond.

“At the camp in Barwon Heads last week, we had a major focus on our culture at the club and I think we made some really exciting progress in that space,” Heppell said.

“It has been player-driven, headed up by our leaders and as leaders we want to take real accountability in driving the culture and gaining the support of the rest of our teammates.”

The players began pre-season training in mid-November, finishing pre-Christmas training on Wednesday.

While the majority of the group has participated in the full pre-season program so far, Joe Daniher and Marty Gleeson continue to take a cautious approach as they return from injuries.

“It has been a really enjoyable pre-season so far. We have a big bulk of the list on the track which is really important at this time of the year,” Heppell said.

“The way that we are competing on the track and the care that we have, there is a lot of trust within the group.

“We are trying to take these aspects - care and competitiveness - to another level over this pre-season and I really feel the way that we are training is going to stack up really well when games come around.”

The Bombers will return from the Christmas break in mid-January.
