Second-year defender Zach Reid tells us about his typical day at the club and what he does away from it.

Take us through what you do before you travel into the NEC Hangar for a training session.

I wake up, have a shower, make breakfast which is usually granola, yoghurt, and berries. Then I’ll jump in the car, get into the club pretty early before my first commitment and listen to music, which is usually a bit of rap, but my Spotify Wrapped for 2021 said I’m more into Australian indie with Ocean Alley and Lime Cordiale.

What time do you get to the NEC Hangar for a training day?

I try to get there at least 15 minutes before my first commitment, so if I’m running late, I don’t have to stress.

What’s your pre-training routine?

I usually head into the gym, do my exercises and usually chill with a coffee. I don’t get strapped which is great for time.

What’s the thing you look forward to about pre-season?

Just getting the footies out again and learning the game-plan and connecting better with teammates.

What’s an area you’re trying to improve this pre-season?

Mainly around my aerial contest as a forward or back and working on being stronger in the contest so I can mark or spoil.

Which training drill is your favourite to do?

Anything with kicking really. It’s one of my strengths so I don’t mind it.

Other than yourself, which teammate has hit the ground running this pre-season?

I’d say Archie Perkins who came back pretty fit. He came second in the 2km time trial and ran a great time.

What’s an essential item in your training kit?

Boots would be the obvious one. I roll with the Nike Tiempos.

What’s your go-to post-training recovery feed?

The feeds have been excellent here. I’d say the roasts we have are unreal, especially the Xmas roast we had with roast beef, veggies and a bit of salad.

What do you usually do when you get home from a training day?

I relax, lay on the couch and watch The Chase while I wait for or cook dinner.

How are you spending your days off?

At the moment, I’m getting my Christmas shopping done. I’ll play golf and shoot basketballs with the housemates (Brandon Zerk-Thatcher and Josh Eyre).

What are some of your favourite hobbies?

I’d say golf, basketball and going the beach, where I can spearfish and dive for Abalone. I’ll also watch Netflix.

What are you getting up to on Christmas?

I’ll head back to Inverloch and have lunch with the grandparents on my mum’s side and then a dinner with my dad’s side that night. I also have to go to church in the morning for the grandparents, so I’ll have to get out of bed for that.
