VFLW Senior Coach Travis Cloke gives us a rundown of the performances from our AFLW-listed players this weekend.

Amelia Radford

29 disposals, five clearances, one goal

Another stellar game from ‘Uber’. She played inside all day, but what was impressive was her mix of contested and uncontested ball and her no-fuss attitude, which has been a standout across her games with us. We look forward to seeing her progression with the AFLW over the back end of the year.

Georgia Clarke

19 disposals, 14 kicks, six marks

Georgia’s been a shining light for us with her aerial presence, continuing to grow and learn about our breakdowns. The standout from the weekend was her involvement at both ends, with her mix of both rebound 50’s and inside 50’s, which will be a great attribute for her as she learns the Essendon brand.

Steph Wales

17 disposals, 30 hit-outs, four clearances

‘Killer’ has been super dominant for us and will be missed [when she transitions into the AFLW]. She was dominant in the hit-outs and her positioning around the ground again over the weekend, but what’s been more beneficial for me is her leadership and voice out there. As a coach, you love to see that in your younger players.

Sophie van De Heuvel

16 disposals, two marks, three clearances

Sophie continued her good form playing on the wing this weekend and is getting a really good breakdown of contested and uncontested footy. A standout for her over the past few weeks has been her running game, which she showed again on Sunday.

Danielle Marshall

14 disposals, 12 kicks, six marks

The American. She plays a very different brand of football to what we’re used to, but she is so reliable. She took some great aerial marks and has been super punctual with her communication in the back six, so we love to see her dominating down there.

Paige Scott

12 disposals, six marks, one goal

‘Scotty’ joined us again on the weekend after missing a couple of games with concussion. She showed her aerial presence again with some contested marks, which I love seeing as a key forward. She directly set up some important goals on the weekend and was important for the group.

Ellyse Gamble

Eight disposals, six kicks, three marks

‘Gambs’ was really impressive in her second game back. She’s really getting some good continuity in her movement patterns and taking some nice marks. This’ll set her up for a good pre-season knowing she’s back up and about, and confident in her body going forward.
