Dear Essendon members,

The end of July was the official deadline for club membership numbers, and it is with great pleasure today that we announce our final tally of 84,237.

By June, we had proudly broken our all-time membership record, passing the 80,000-member mark for the first time in the club’s rich history. Our previous record, set in 2018, was 79,318.

This is a tremendous achievement and the unwavering commitment and passion from you, our members, is simply unrivalled.

As we approach the last month of the 2019 home-and-away season, I want to take this opportunity to thank you on behalf of the Board for your support of the Mighty Bombers.

To celebrate this milestone, we would like to invite those who can attend to an open training session at The Hangar on Friday morning from 10:30am.

The new-look café will be open, and I even hear our playing group will present a gift to our members as a thank-you.

We’ve also managed to find some unusual facts about our valued members that make for some fun reading:

  • 19,558 new members this season
  • 186 named Don or Donna
  • 81 Fletchers and 21 Lloyds but we’re yet to see anyone with a first name of McDonald-Tipungwuti
  • 9,460 have been members since the 2000 premiership
  • We now have 50,000 members more than the premiership year of 2000
  • More than double 10 years ago, and 10x the member number from 30 years ago
  • Over 40k more than the biggest crowd at Windy Hill
  • 636,591 collective years of tenure
  • We have distributed over 600,000 EFC scarves or caps in the past 10 years

Earlier this week, the AFL also confirmed the round 23 schedule where we will face Collingwood at the MCG on Friday, August 23.

We are excited to face our traditional rival in the prime-time slot, and I urge our members to fill the stands at the blockbuster clash by purchasing their tickets when they go on sale at 9:00am on Wednesday, August 7.

With two successive wins on the road in the past fortnight, we look forward to returning to Marvel Stadium in front of a home crowd against Port Adelaide.

In what will no doubt be an exciting conclusion to the home-and-away season, your support is more important than ever as we strive towards a September campaign.

Our members are the heart and soul of the football club. Once again, I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your incredible support of the Mighty Bombers.

Go Bombers!

Sincerely,

Lindsay Tanner
President
