Star Bomber Dylan Shiel says mental health and wellbeing remain at the top of the players' priorities during this challenging period.

While keeping physically fit through online group circuit training and individualised programs, Shiel said he and his teammates weren't forgetting the bigger picture during the AFL lockdown.

"We keep in contact with all the players on a personal level to check in on how everyone’s going, because we’re in a really difficult situation at the moment," Shiel told RSN 927 on Thursday.

"We’re probably more focused on guys’ wellbeing and mental health, rather than things on a professional, football-strategic level. It’s really unfortunate that a lot of people have been stood down among the AFL industry, and everyone’s suffering at the moment, so that’s why mental wellbeing is the priority."

All AFL players are in the second week of isolation, adhering to the Government's measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.

With the AFL season currently suspended until at least May 31, Shiel said he was optimistic the season would resume sooner than later.

"It’s (current situation) pretty bizarre. I’m optimistic that we can get back quicker than what most people are thinking," he said.

"It’s sad to think that this could be a full-season matter. Where all hoping for not just footy, but some normality across the world."

The 27-year-old said he was fortunate to have his girlfriend Georgie to keep him across the COVID-19 developments.

"I don’t pay too much attention to it, because my girlfriend is all over it. She’s the one checking during the morning, afternoon and night, so there's no need for me to be watching the news or studying the charts."
