Senior assistant coach Simon Goodwin is confident the fresh talent among Essendon’s coaching group for 2014 will continue to assist the club achieve to a high standard.

The former Adelaide premiership player will be reunited with old teammate Nathan Bassett (Assistant Coach) and coach Neil Craig (Head of Coaching Development and Strategy) for the upcoming season under interim Senior Coach Mark Thompson.

Goodwin will have an increased role during the season after being promoted to Senior Assistant Coach during the off-season.

“We really only got together in the last week or so in terms of pulling everyone together and we are trying to work out now how we are going to play,” Goodwin said.

“Not too much will change but little bits and pieces will and fresh people bring fresh ideas.”

“We are looking to improve our game as much as we can which is what this coaching group will deliver.”

Goodwin said the club’s new High Performance Centre had created a great sense of enthusiasm within the playing group.

“You can really sense the excitement this year coming to a new facility such as the High Performance Centre which is certainly a world class facility,” he said.

“The elite environment produces elite training and there is no doubt the players are embracing that right from the start.”

“They want to get into it, they want to get busy and they want to do the work which is exciting for the football club.”

Essendon’s senior players return to training on the 18th of November to join their younger teammates.

“The hard work really has started from now on in, it is an exciting time for the Essendon Football Club,” Goodwin said.

“It is an exciting time for the coaches and we are looking forward to building something that is pretty successful.”
