Essendon midfielder David Myers has been cleared of striking Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray during the first quarter of Sunday’s win over the Power.

The match review panel assessed the action was not a striking motion and that a 50 metre penalty paid on the day was appropriate penalty.

The panel said Gray was running with the flight of the ball as Myers comes from the opposite direction.

As Gray completed the mark, Myers slowed his pace and put his arms in front of him to brace for oncoming contact.

Justin Westhoff, Port Adelaide, has been charged with a level three striking offence (225 demerit points, two-match sanction) for striking Cale Hooker, Essendon, during the third quarter.

In summary, due to a five-year good record, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Essendon Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), liw impact (one point) and high contact (two points).
