Essendon VFLW have played out a thrilling draw with Williamstown in Saturday's round two clash.

The Bombers got off to a flying start at the NEC Hangar, booting the opening three goals of the game and holding a 15-point lead at the main break.

Inaccuracy in front of goal prevented the Dons from putting the game away, with Williamstown kicking two final-term goals to regain the lead.

A late behind from recruit Ashlea Melnikas salvaged the draw for the Bombers in a tense finish.

Melnikas, Amy GaylorSarah Ford and Chloe Adams all snared their maiden goals for the club, while Mia Busch relished a midfield opportunity with 25 disposals and five tackles.

Lily-Rose Williamson finished with 18 disposals, while Steph Wales was a key presence in the ruck with 28 hit-outs and 15 touches.

The Bombers will face off against Darebin at the NEC Hangar next Saturday, with the first bounce at 11:05am AEDT.
