Essendon Football Club is proud to stand alongside the Sydney Swans in this weekend’s Pride Game – a meaningful celebration of inclusion, visibility and belonging within our game.

The Bombers share a close and longstanding connection with LGBTQIA+ supporter group, the Purple Bombers.

Founded by Jason Tuazon-McCheyne more than a decade ago, the group continues to play a significant role in helping ensure that all supporters, regardless of sexuality or gender identity, feel safe and welcomed at the football.

That message of inclusion is one the Club continues to foster across all areas of its environment – both on and off the field.

In the lead-up to events such as this weekend’s match and the AFLW Pride Round, the Club undertakes initiatives aimed at raising awareness and further educating its people on the importance of Pride and its role in the broader football community.

Earlier this week, players and staff took part in a thought-provoking session led by Caitlin Bunker from Pride Cup, with a focus on what it means to create inclusive spaces.

Participants were invited to reflect on their own role in driving inclusion and were encouraged to identify one personal action they could take to help others feel safe, valued and supported.
