Matthew Lloyd has become the first Essendon player to win the John Coleman Medal after the home and away season was completed last weekend.

Lloyd finished the home and away season with 94 goals - 29 goals ahead of his nearest rival Lance Whitnall of Carlton.

The John Coleman Medal was first awarded in 1981 and no Essendon player has previously collected the prestigious medal.

Lloyd has a maximum of four games and a minimum of two games remaining to kick the six goals he needs to crack the ton for the first time.
