Fan development manager Ryan McKee said Essendon understands the importance of having an entertaining mascot.
“A mascot is a critical piece to fan engagement, both at games and in the community,” McKee said.
“A huge part of the role is in the community, attaining a celebrity status among kids because our strong community program at Essendon reaches more than 40,000 youth each year.”
The club has hired a 16-year professional American mascot who has performed in the NHL, NFL and NBA to head up the process.
McKee said the process the Bombers are going through to find ‘Australia’s Next Top Mascot’ showed how seriously the process is being taken.
“We’ve termed our recruitment process ‘Australia’s Next Top Mascot’ and that’s the mentality behind the new role, we want to be leaders in this space,” he said.
“He has played a role in developing the new look and we will be flying him out to Australia to assist in the final selection as well as provide intensive training to the new recruit.”
