Essendon Football Club is saddened by the loss of former player David Wilkie, who died  this week aged 97.

Wilkie passed away quietly on Tuesday morning as one of the longest living former league players.

In a modest career, Wilkie managed just one game for the Bombers kicking three goals on debut against South Melbourne in 1934.

Wilkie played alongside the great Dick Reynolds in the year in which Reynolds won his first Brownlow Medal and is still the youngest man to win the coverted award.

At the other end of the ground, South Melbourne's Bob Pratt kicked a career high 15 goals and went on to kick 150 goals for the season.

Essendon Football Club would like to extend its deepest sympathy to the Wilkie family.
