Some of what the fans had to say:

""Another excellent season as chief link man in defence. His ability to run the ball out and set up attacks is vital. Can also take a good mark.""

""Had another good year as a running half back flanker. Delivers the ball beautifully. Creates attack from defence. Still occasionally gets beaten in one on one contests.""

""Mr Consistent and Mr Reliable, just about the most underrated player at the club who continues to do his job week in week out.""

""Another excellent season. Probably the most consistent player at the club. Good to see him up the ground a bit more. With Solomon back, should allow him to play more as the damaging link man up on the wing that he was in 2000.""

""Dynamic and creative running back, another stellar year from this integral player.""

""Another stellar year from the key running back in the team. Goes from strength to strength and is responsible for so much of the bombers renowned drive from the back half.""

""Great season for us in the backline. He is our second best defender only behind Dustin Fletcher. With Solomon back for 2004 we will be a better defensive unit.""

""The premier mid-sized running defender in the A.F.L had another outstanding season. His versatility and foot skills are supreme and he never stopped trying.""

The wash up:The fan's said that Sean Wellman is one of the most important players in the Essendon team with his ability to play all over the ground and referred to him as the 'link' man. They believe he had another consistent season and is always hard working and gives 100%. The fan's agreed that Wellman is integral to the success of the backline and with Solomon returning next season, will give him the opportunity to provide the team with more run out of defence.

What Mark Harvey has to say:
""This year we had to use Sean in a number of roles because of the injuries. He is always thinking about his footy and even at 28-years he is looking at ways to improve his football and get better. He is one of our most courageous players I have ever seen and he will always back into a pack to help his teammate cut off that lead. I think nearly after every game I see Sean Wellman with ice packs on his back from the knees his cops because he puts his body on the line. He is very important to us in a number of ways and is a leader around the club.""
