It is befitting that Angus Monfries willplay his 150th AFL game on the big stage of the MCG against archrivalCollingwood on Saturday night.
Monfries, 25, is one of the team’s mostdangerous players in front of goal and returned to form last week against theTigers booting three goals.
Essendon coach James Hird said Monfries hadbeen an important player for the Bombers since his debut year in 2005.
“Angus has played a lot of really goodfooty for Essendon and 150 games is a fantastic milestone for him,” Hird said
“He is like a lot of players this year thathad a hamstring and then took a couple of weeks to get back to the level hewanted to but it was great to see him play well last week.”
Monfries, taken with pick 14 in the 2004national draft, was initially recruited as a small lead up forward but Hirdsaid he had become a much more versatile player.
“The good thing about Gus is that you canplay him on the ball, you can play him up forward and he’s very consistent whenhe’s fit and he’s played a lot of good football for our club,” Hird said.
Monfires collected a career high 35disposals against Adelaide in 2011; including 22 kicks, 13 handballs, 10 marksand a goal.
