The Bombers sure are a force to be reckoned with… and we don’t just mean in the AFL. The Sydney AFL has been bombarded by their version of the rampaging Bombers with Essendon sister club, North Shore having three of their teams on top of the tables.
The seniors, reserves and the under 18 sides are currently leading the ladderboards in their respective competitions. Adding to the senior team’s success, the club’s under 13 and under 12 sides have been hard at it all season.
The under 12’s have taken out the Paul Roos Greater Sydney Cup, defeating North West in the Grand Final. Whereas the under 13’s have beaten South Coast in the Grand Final of the Tony Lockett Greater Sydney Cup.
General Manager of the North Shore Football Club, Darren Simpson is ecstatic with the results. “The onfield success is a fantastic achievement and we are very proud to be where we are.” he said.
North Shore also attributes their link with the Essendon club to their success both on and off the field. “The coaching staff have been fantastic, we had Robert Shaw sit down with our coaches for 5 hours one day just to work through different strategies,” Simpson said. “We have even had the opportunity to observe the way in which the football department at Essendon work whilst preparing for a game and implement that early in our season”.
North Shore has also become renowned for their professional set up at a managerial level, something which has also filtered down from their Victorian counterpart. “We have learnt an incredible amount about the other side to football and it is something we always take into account now,” Simpson said. “We aim to be the most professional club we can be and we like to be recognised for aiming high”.
