It was very late in the game against Port Adelaide on the weekend and the Bombers were desperately trying to draw level. The conventional wasn't bringing the results the Bombers needed so Gary Moorcroft and Scott Lucas combined to try something a little different with excellent results. The Bombers were struggling find a target in close to goal with the Port Adelaide flood making life difficult so when Gary Moorcroft was awarded a free kick just outside the 50m arc it was difficult to see what the Bombers could make of the opportunity.

""The ball was in the crowd and it was taking a little while to get back so I called Scotty over and had a chat to him,"" Moorcroft said. ""I knew I wasn't going to make the distance from that far out so I told him to run past, receive the handball and I would try and block his opponent so he could get a shot at goal.""

The ball was returned to Moorcroft and Lucas followed instructions to the letter. He broke two metres clear of his opponent, got the handball and kicked the goal. ""It worked out well - we needed to try something and it worked and we got level. Unfortunately we didn't manage to go on with the job once we had drawn level with them.""

And while the plan worked well, Scott Lucas was the first to admit his finishing kick wasn't the greatest. ""It was a very average kick. I got it right on the toe of my boot and it only just managed to float over the back of the pack. I've kicked some lovely points this year so maybe I deserved an ugly goal,"" he laughed.
