Kevin Sheedy has questioned the AFL ruling on team lists being submitted half an hour before matches after Dean Rioli spent Friday night’s match on the bench due to migraine and dizzy spells.

Rioli was forced to start on the ground after feeling the repercussions of a knock to the head only minutes before the game, a potentially dangerous situation that Sheedy thinks needs to be addressed. ""The actual rule is a restraint in many ways on the performance of coaches and I think that it should be looked at,"" Sheedy said.

The coach spoke to the media this afternoon before training and said he would definitely look at taking action regarding the issue and the consequences breaking the rule can incur. ""Dean fainted 15 minutes before we ran out on the ground and we had emergencies in (Mark) Bolton and (Jonathan) Robran standing around, I felt like saying ‘get changed you’re playing’, had we done that we would have been fined…what do you do?"" he said.

Sheedy even considered taking that risk in order to communicate the inefficiency of the ruling. ""We didn’t do anything about it because of the rules, maybe we have to break some rules to try and let people know that they’re not working,"" Sheedy said.

Another topic that has everyone talking is the mark taken by Gary Moorcroft just before half time on Friday night. ""It was a sensational mark, he is completely outstretched with his eyes only on the ball."" Sheedy said. ""You couldn’t have had a better advertisement for Sherrin footballs really, the logo is front and centre you’d have to say it was pretty exciting mark."" he said.

On the other hand, Moorcroft himself was very humble when he spoke to the media before training, saying it was ""just a mark"". Sheedy said “We told him to crumb,"" when told of Moorcroft's response. ""Because if he’s not crumbing, that means Lloyd has to.""

James Hird has increased his chances of playing, even though he trained lightly today. ""He’d be a 70/30 chance of playing,"" Sheedy said. ""In this case though we’ll go with the player and Hird knows his own body.""

Justin Blumfield and Steve Alessio will play again in the VFL while Damien Hardwick and Jason Johnson look likely to return this week. Johson missed the Friday night game for personal reasons, with the full support of the club. ""It’s a great thing that the club make sure we look after our players and put our support behind him,"" Sheedy said.
