Essendon chairman David Evans has reiterated the importance of the club’s new high performance centre to bringing the club its next premiership.

The Bombers last flag was 12 years ago at the turn of the century, equalling the third longest premiership drought in the club’s history.

Evans said the new high performance centre was crucial to future success.

“The fundraising is going well but I have got to be frank if we don’t do this the ability for us to repeat the likes of the 2000 premiership is tougher,” Evans said on The Hangar.

“It is a crucial project for us and something that I feel incredibly passionate about.

“There is a lot of planning, a lot of hard work going into it at the moment and I have some good feelings about what can happen over the next few years.”

Evans said the development of the high performance centre had begun and was on schedule.

“The civil works are being done at the moment so we hope to get the grounds up and going by November this year and have the boys doing their pre-season on it leading into the 2013 year,” he said.

“It is very exciting, it is certainly going to plan and it is certainly going to budget.”
