Essendon players have cancelled a post season trip to Las Vegas following the tragic passing of Port Adelaide player John McCarthy.
The players had planned to visit the popular holiday destination later this week but quickly moved to change plans after the incident.
Essendon coach James Hird said the decision was made out of respect for the McCarthy family.
""When we all found out about John we were very shocked and felt for his family,"" Hird said.
""Our view was that the respectful thing to do was to not go to Las Vegas as the players wanted to show respect to John, his family and the Port Adelaide Football Club.""
""The whole of the Essendon Football Club is feeling for them terribly.""
Essendon Football Club extends its deepest sympathies to the McCarthy Family and the Port Adelaide Football Club, following the tragic passing of John McCarthy. Essendon CEO Ian Robson said the devastating news has shaken the entire AFL community.
