The camp will see the players training andliving at 6,000 feet completing the same training as the players remaining inMelbourne.
Essendon performance coach Justin Crow saidhaving all players undertaking the same training schedule gave an opportunity tobetter analyze the results of the camp.
“We are going to mimic the program inMelbourne because we are lucky enough to have good facilities at ColoradoUniversity where we can train indoors on an NFL pitch,” Crow said.
“We are going todo the running and all the weights that we would normally do in Melbourne toallow our players to get a really good look at the improvements relative to thegroup in Melbourne in terms of their aerobic running base.”
This trial is set to become an importantparameter for whether the club undertakes such camps in the future.
“We are taking a group of about ten of ourplayers, mostly the midfield along with our midfield coach Simon Goodwin and acouple of other of our leaders,” Crow said.
“They will come back and report to the restof the group on the experience and whether or not it is worth our while takinga larger group in the future.”
Crow said the training was set to bebeneficial in providing the midfield group with a greater training base to runout matches.
“The adaptationsin terms of physiology will allow us to maximize our aerobic running, being ourability to cover ground in matches,” he said.
“It will reallyprovide a building block for the rest of our pre-season moving into more of ourmatch specific training then eventually playing games early next year.”
