Matthew Lloyd is one of the stars of the modern AFL competition - you only need watch him in action to recognise this sublimely skilled forward has it all. A great mark, an excellent kick and above all a competitor for whom the team always comes first. And now statistically Lloyd is starting to confirm what everyone nows. Last weekend against Adelaide, Lloyd kicked his 400th goal in league football. It was his second goal of the night and it saw him become the third youngest player in history to achieve the target behind Bob Pratt and Tony Lockett.

Pratt and Lockett are the two leading goalkickers in the history of the game so Lloyd is in very good company. To add to the significance of the night, Lloyd also booted his 50th goal of the season and is well-placed to reach the ton for the second successive season. Only 11 other players have managed to kick more than 100 goals on two occasions. The milestones are nice but not something Lloyd like sto focus on.

""Is suppose if you are kicking goals and reaching milestones then you must be doing a reasonable job for the team and that is what it is all about,"" Lloyd said. ""I think milestones are something that players look back on at the end of their careers rather than during them - whether it be goals or games played.""

The top-six players to reach the 400-goal milestone in the fastest time are:

Bob Pratt - 22 years, 238 days, round one, 1935.
Tony Lockett - 23 years, 30 days, round two, 1989.
Matthew Lloyd - 23 years, 60 days, round twelve, 2001.
John Longmire - 23 years, 183 days, round 15, 1994.
Kelvin Templeton - 23 years, 201 days, round four, 1980.
John Coleman - 24 years, 141 days, round one, 1953.
