Promising youngster Jordan Bannister is in line for a return to the Essendon seniors after a sensational eight-goal haul against Bendigo in the Essendon VFL side yesterday. His performance couldn't have come at a better time for Essendon, still reeling from the serious injuries suffered by captain James Hird and full forward Matthew Lloyd against Fremantle. Bannister dominated in the VFL side's 103-point win playing on a wing and across half forward.

A number of other young Bombers turned in solid performances and will be in line for senior selection, along with Scott Lucas who is certain to return from a hip flexor injury. James Davies produced his best game for the season as did Andrew Welsh - both could make their senior debuts next weekend against Carlton. Joel Reynolds was also good and will come under consideration. Mark Mercuri is expected to be fit to play this weekend as is Paul salmon.

But it is Bannister who will have excited the Essendon selectors. ""He was fantastic for us, running hard and really kicking some terrific goals. He will certainly be considered. We have to make a couple of changes with some injuries we have so he will certainly come into discussions,"" Essendon football manager Matthew Drain said.

The Essendon VFL side had 10 goal-kickers in its thumping win over Bendigo. Luke Hawkins also kicked seven goals as Essendon chalked up its first win of the season in the VFL.
