""Peverill and Mark Johnson have helped me out quite a bit this season. They were in similar circumstances to me, so it is inspiring to see what they have done since coming off Essendon's rookie list. So generally those two I try to look up to and try and improve to play like them. Mark Johnson has worked on his game a lot over the pre-season, so hopefully I can do a similar role next year and in the up and coming weeks.""
Hall was elevated to the senior list in Round 12 when Dean Solomon was put on the long-term injury list. Hall has since played one senior game, but continues to be a key contributor in the VFL side. ""I wasn't expecting to get onto the senior list - I didn't want one of the players to come down with a long-term injury. After Solly injured his knee, getting on the senior list was one of my goals,"" Hall said. After getting on the senior list Hall re-assessed his goals. ""I didn't target a certain number of senior games because I knew it would be hard coming off the rookie list. I just wanted to play some consistent football and maybe get two or three games in the seniors,"" the former Tassie Mariners player said.
In the VFL side, Hall has mainly been playing in the back pocket until recently coach Terry Daniher has given him a run on the ball. ""It is good to get out of the back pocket for a change and get a run on the ball, instead of staying in the back pocket for all of my career. I like having an opportunity in different positions. I did a bit of work in the pre-season playing on the ball and Terry (Daniher) has always been keen for me to go onto the ball. My fitness isn't too bad but it is an adaptation from the back pocket,"" Hall said.
Hall has done quite a bit of work with development coaches Kevin Morris and David Flood and has helped Hall with his kicking. I used to kick around corners a fair bit and now I am straightening up a lot more. They (Morris and Flood) have really worked with me this year and Shawry helps out a bit too,"" Hall said. Moving into the centre, Hall is conscious he needs to keep improving his fitness and also believes is overhead marking is another area for improvement. ""I still have a few areas I need to work on, but a big strength of my game is I can kick the ball long and I can gather the ball at ground level quite a bit. I have always been able to kick the ball along way but I suppose my ground work is something I have continually worked on,"" Hall said.
What Floody says:
Hall came over from Tasmania last year and was put on the rookie list this season and then was elevated to senior list because of long-term injury to Dean Solomon. He has played one senior game this year after being elevated. He is a good kick of the ball and is a powerful young player. He has been playing mainly in the back pocket and we have used him a few times in the mid-field. He is coming to terms with that part of the game - it is not always easy going from the back pocket into the mid-field. He has to keep improving on all aspects of his game. He is very talented and powerful with his kicking, but he just needs to keep improving his fitness and strength. He will hopefully become a permanent part of our senior side down the track. He is similar in physique to Mark Johnson.
