Forward Will Snelling will be placed on a conservative rehabilitation program after suffering a reoccurring calf injury in Essendon’s win against Adelaide.

Round four’s victory was Snelling’s first game back from a similar injury sustained in pre-season.

Head of high performance Sean Murphy said Snelling will now take a steady road back to returning to the field.

“It’s really disappointing for ‘Snell’,” Murphy told Dons Digital’s Liberty Financial Performance Update.

“It was his first game back from that calf injury. He had that nice rehab program which was seamless. It happened early in the second quarter that re-injury of the calf, and now we’ll have to be conservative in this instance with his rehab plan and build him up again.”

Defender James Stewart will also miss the next several weeks after injuring his calf during the Dons’ preparations for Adelaide.

Stewart will enter a rehab program after a scan confirmed his calf tightness was worse than first thought.

“It’s unfortunate for ‘Stuz’ (Stewart),” Murphy said.

“At main training last week, he just had a little bit of calf tightness early in the session and didn’t think it was going to be too much.

“We got the scan and it came back with a disappointing result with that calf strain. He’ll have to enter that rehab plan now and miss a few weeks as well.”

Midfielder-forward Jake Stringer will miss Essendon’s Easter Sunday clash against Fremantle with a hamstring strain.

The 28-year-old suffered the injury in main training last week, and will need at least another week to heal.

“Unfortunately, Jake sustained that hamstring in main training last week also,” Murphy said.

“It’s low end at this point, so he’ll enter the rehab program and work through those processes over the next couple of weeks and hopefully we’ll see him back sooner rather than later.”

Young key forward Patrick Voss will enter a rehab program after sustaining a foot stress injury in Essendon VFL’s loss to Frankston.

Murphy said Voss, who impressed with three goals in the loss to the Dolphin, would be conservatively managed as a first-year player.

“Voss has suffered a moderate foot stress injury,” Murphy said.

“We’ll be conservative with him being a first-year player. He’ll go into a moon boot to offload for the next couple of weeks and then we’ll reassess from there.”

Murphy also touched on injury updates to Harrison Jones, Nik Cox and Kaine Baldwin, while highlightinf stellar high-performance efforts from Archie Perkins and Nick Hind.
