Essendon captain Jobe Watson has admitted last week was the most emotionally challenging he has faced in his career.

Watson’s emotion was evident following his 29 disposals and two-goal performance in the club’s thrilling win over West Coast on Thursday night.

“I was pretty nervous about going out and playing,” Watson told The Hangar.

“Emotionally for me it was probably as challenging (week) as I have experienced before going into a game.

“I really had no idea how I would go, I hoped that I could put it out of my mind and play.”

“It was pretty difficult to focus on the game to be honest but I think once I was out there you sort of just get into the groove of playing the game but preparation wise it was a challenge.”

Watson said he was not bother by the booing he received from the West Coast crowd throughout the match on Thursday night.

“I noticed it but it didn’t bother me,” he said.

“People can react in whatever way they want, that is their choice and it wasn’t something that was impactful.”

The Bombers skipper paid tribute to his teammates for their support during the ongoing ASADA investigation.

“I thought the way that they (my teammates) played, the way the team, held together and the club under a lot of stress is why it is such a great place to be a part of.”

“People are faced with challenges all the time and it is how you react and come out of them that is most important.”

“I have been fortunate that I have been surrounded by a lot of people who care about me and people who are of high character.”
