The Bendigo Bombers have suffered a disheartening 88-point defeat to Sandringham at Windy Hill in their last match before the VFL finals.
Bendigo lagged behind Sandringham from the outset of the match and, despite outscoring Sandringham in the second quarter, were helpless against Sandringham's goal-scoring onslaught in the second half and finished with a disappointing 4.10 (34) to Sandringham's 18.14 (122).
Bendigo's usual list of Essendon players and rookies will be lining up for Essendon today against the Brisbane Lions due to the injuries and illness being experienced by the Essendon side.
Bendigo are still guaranteed a finals berth, while Sandringham will not have enough points to qualify.
Single goals were scored by Essendon rookie Michael Still and Bendigo's Pierce Liddle, Jacob Thompson and Michael James.
THE Bendigo Bank Bombers will enter their first VFL finals series since 2007 on the back of their heaviest loss of the season. In Saturday’s final round of the season, the Bombers were belted by 88 points by Sandringham at Windy Hill. The Zebras kicked 13 goals to one after half-time as they won 18.14 (122) to 4.10 (34). With the defeat, the Bombers have ended the home and away season eighth on the ladder with a 10-8 record – which is 10 more victories than last year.
