Matthew Lloyd and James Hird's return to footy warmed the hearts of Essendon supporters on Saturday night. The pair where easily the Bombers two best players - Hird notched up 25 possessions and Lloyd kicked five goals. Bomber coach Kevin Sheedy agreed it was fantastic to see the duo back in action. ""It was great to see Lloyd kick five goals and the more goals he kicks this year, he edges towards breaking John Coleman's goal kicking tally at the club - he probably has that in sight. We played Hird off half-back early and we are pretty keen to get a side that is able to run off half-back and the wing - so we will be looking at that over the next eight weeks,"" Sheedy said.

Q. Where you disappointed with Saturday night's result?
A. Well I thought at least we showed a lot of courage to get back. I said to James Hird just before he got the trophy, at least tell everyone the game won. It was a very, very exciting game from a spectator’s point of view. There is not much you can do, you can't change the result. We had our opportunities - we had the ball inside our forward line over 60 times and the Western Bulldogs showed an enormous amount of fighting spirit to get up and be a point ahead. At the end of the day, sometimes those rushed points that happen during the course of the game - perhaps either cost you a win or a loss.

Q. Port Adelaide are travelling well at the moment?
A. They are going well at the moment. It is very unusual that the top side has the most free kicks in the AFL. Everything is running for them - they have won away very well and they have a great percentage. We have eight weeks to go, so we will have to change it around. I suppose the exciting part of the AFL season at the moment is that we got 46,000 people to the game on Saturday night and it was a great game. Soccer is off the map now and Lleyton Hewitt won Wimbledon - you would have to say South Australia are extremely happy.

Q. What do you think about Lleyton Hewitt's on-court antics?
A. Everyone forgets that he is only 21. He won the US open at 20 and Wimbledon now at 21-years. The greatest thing about his play and I often tell my players is his second, third and fourth efforts. His consistency and running across the court and trying to get every ball back. It is great for the kids watching Australian sport to see a young man play like that. We all know that he has a few habits we would like to see him change a little bit but that doesn't mean you can't admire the performances when he puts them on the board.

Q. Do you think Kretiuk should be reported for the incident with Lloyd?
A. I don't think a player should be reported or outed for it - it is probably an area where possibly you could get a yellow card, a reminder. Perhaps it is an area in the end the game might do something like that. I thought it was Kretiuk at his best. He is one of those players that can annoy the opposition fans. My own personal belief is I wouldn't report or suspend a player.

Q.Did you think Kretiuk stepped over the line with his treatment of Matthew Lloyd?
A. It seemed to be what happened in the school yard as a kid when you are playing footy against your mates and you are trying to annoy them or get the ball back off them. In retrospect, I suppose it is an image you don't want to portray to mums and dads and I wouldn't be surprised if the AFL did write to him. But it is not going to win or lose you the game, unless he did actually bust Lloyd's hand and then you would probably have the whole world come down on him.

Q. What did you make of Matthew Richardson's body language last Friday night in the game against Carlton?
A. Everybody up the field is trying to get the ball to a forward. Sometimes the disposal might not be great but I don't think I would have been doing what Matthew did. But I don't know the young man that well and I think the Tigers will handle it the way they should and in the end I think it is probably a warning to all forwards - unless you have played in the mid-field, you don't know sometimes how hard it is to get the ball down there. I wouldn't like my players to perform in such a manner, so I have no doubt the Tigers might see fit to reprimand him in some way.
