WELLMAN FINGER SURGERY
Essendon defender Sean Wellman may find it difficult to cut the Christmas turkey this year. Wellman had an operation on his finger on Monday afternoon to correct tendon damage. The surgery was similar to the operation he had on another finger at the end of the 2002 season. ""It was initially hoped the injury could be overcome by the use of a splint but ultimately the surgeon decided to operate,"" football manager Dominic Cato said.

""The operation was performed this week to allow Sean to recover over the Christmas break, so he will be able to handle the ball in mid to late January. All other aspects of his training will continue as normal,"" Cato said. The Essendon team will have its final training session for the year this Saturday. The team will enjoy a three-week break before resuming training on Monday, January 12th. A development squad will recommence training a few days earlier on Wednesday, January 7th.

Adam McPhee helped spread some Christmas cheer yesterday when he visited the Starlight Express Room at the Royal Children's Hospital. The Bomber star and Melbourne's favourite idol Robert Mills were special guests at the Starlight Foundation's annual Christmas Party. McPhee was put under the griller by the children at the Christmas Party when he was asked a series of questions about pre-season training and playing for the Bombers.
