After an overwhelming demand for its first-ever AFLW game, the Essendon Football Club is proud to announce that its round one clash with Hawthorn will now be played at Marvel Stadium.

Originally scheduled to be played at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne, the Bombers will now face fellow inaugural team Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium at 7:10pm on Saturday, August 27.

Two clubs with a long-standing rivalry will now create a new chapter in their rich history. Bombers fans will not want to miss this momentous occasion.

Essendon CEO Xavier Campbell said that the club saw unprecedented demand for their first AFLW game and is thrilled that more of the red and black family will have the opportunity to be involved in the historic match.

“This week, Essendon fans got behind our AFLW side and sold out our first game within 24 hours,” Campbell said.

“With immense pride, I’m pleased to announce that this game has now been moved to Marvel, so more Essendon members and fans will have the opportunity to show their support for our inaugural side.

“This move means that two clubs with passionate supporter bases will now be able to truly celebrate this important moment in both their histories.

“We want Bombers fans to fill the stands at Marvel Stadium on August 27 and be there as our AFLW side runs out for the first time.”

Tickets to the relocated game will be on sale at 12pm tomorrow.
