Launched in 2009, the GloBALL program is a joint initiative run by the Essendon Football Club and Cricket Victoria which aims to help international students and newly arrived migrants settle into life in Australia. In 2010, the program saw more than 4000 participants receive the opportunity to participate in various football and cricket activities including free entry to matches, clinics and tours.
The 2011 GloBALL AFL season launch event, held on Wednesday 20th April, will feature both football and cricket activities, a free BBQ, merchandise giveaways, player appearances and autograph signings with the aim to introduce this great initiative to newly arrived migrant students.
GLoBALL is calling on Essendon fans to sign up as GLoBALL ambassadors to assist in the promotion of Australian Rules Football to new international migrants. In order to secure free tickets to a Bombers’ match, ambassadors are required to sit with a group of international students, share their knowledge about footy and help the new migrants enjoy the experience and Australian sporting culture.
The following six games will be a part of the GLoBALL program in 2011:
Sunday 1st May, Ess vs. Gold Coast @ Etihad
Saturday 21st May, Ess vs. Richmond @ MCG
Friday 3rd June, Ess vs. Melbourne @ MCG
Saturday 23rd July, Ess vs. Carlton @ MCG
Saturday 6th August, Ess vs. Sydney @ Etihad
Sunday 28th August, Ess vs. Port Adelaide @ Etihad
