Essendon player Michael Hibberd has been suspended indefinitely by the club after breaching club protocol over the weekend.

General manager of football operations Paul Hamilton made the following statement:

“As the matter is being investigated by Police, I am unable to comment in relation to the alleged incident but what I can say is that Michael has been suspended indefinitely for breaching team protocol by being out late while recovering from a hamstring injury,” Hamilton said.

Hibberd is currently assisting Police with their enquiries in relation to an alleged physical altercation that took place in Mornington early on Sunday morning.

Hibberd was available for selection this week after overcoming a hamstring injury however the enactment of this suspension rules him ineligible at either AFL or VFL level.
