Appearing on Weekend Rewind this week, Bomber midfield star, Brent Stanton, says the team really hit its straps on Friday against the Eagles.

“In the first 10 minutes of the last quarter I reckon we’ve played our best footy for the year,” Stanton said.

“The intensity in tackling and pressure, it’s amazing when you have the confidence in your kicking and skills you just use players on first instinct and you get it down to Lloyd and Lucas and they do the job for you.”

Thetwenty-two year olddiscusses what it’s been like inheriting James Hird’s famousNo.5 top and says he is coming into some form.

“I started the year off slowly and since then I have been building up. It hashelped getting players like Jobe Watson back in the rotations,"" he said.

In one of the least shocking moments of the week former premiership player, Paul Barnard, asks yet another Essendon player if he was the best footballer the club has ever seen.

While Stanton dodges that question he does discuss the coach’s weekly goal setting, rates his toughest opponent of the year, places Carlton in the top four or five midfields in the competition and provides words of support for injured youngster, Scott Gumbleton.

“He’s a great young guy who is willing to learn and the senior guys will need to get around him,” Stanton said.

‘This year hasn’t been great for him but hopefully 2009 will be.”
