Angus Monfries made a good impression with the Essendon fans in his first year at the club. Exceeding expectations, he particularly impressed the fans with his courage and attack on the ball. With a good pre-season in the gym to bulk up, they hope Monfries will get more ground time in 2006 and have an important role with the Bombers next year and beyond.

What some of the Essendon fans had to say:
""Really showed to all this year that his future looks exciting. His pace and silky skills should prove useful in years to come in a mid- field/forward role."" (Robert Aynsley)

""Very exciting youngster with loads of courage and polish. Look for a bigger 2006."" (Nathan Batten)

""Brave with a big heart, very good skills all around, pace. Just needs some body weight and muscle to impose himself."" (Frederick Hughan)

""Impressive in his first year. Excellent attack on the ball, real in and under. Expect to see him help out Jason Johnson in the midfield more in the next couple of years. Surprised 'others' finished so far ahead of him in the B&F."" (Andrew Fraser)

""Selection of Monfries was real win for the Bombers. As courageous as they come and prepared to put his body on the line for the side. Needs to build up his body. An outstanding prospect with a maturity well beyond his years, who will be one of the clubs future leaders. Was surprised that he did not get more game time in 2005."" (Leonard Clark)

""For the amount of game time he got he was outstanding. He is a future star and leader at our club for sure."" (Janette McQualter)

""First season great job. Showed us he has potential even with his height. I think he may develop into a possession small forward."" (Jonny Kloester)

""Very clever footballer that will be much better for the senior experience this year. Put some weight on and 06 looks great."" (Martin Bates)
