Essendon’s inaugural VFLW Squad has been confirmed, featuring an exciting mix of youth and experience as the team heads into its first season.

Five AFLW players have been selected, including captain Lisa Williams and playing assistant coach Lauren Morecroft who both spent time with the Western Bulldogs.

Giants trio Tanya Hetherington, Maddy Collier and Tait Mackrill will also don the sash, while former Magpie Kendra Heil rounds out the experienced group of senior players.

The new Bombers have come from far and wide with representatives from the Northern Territory, New South Wales, Western Australia and South Australia joining their Victorian teammates for the year.

Stephanie Hird and Michaela Long – daughters of Essendon legends James Hird and Michael Long – have also been included in the squad.

Entry is free for the side’s historic first game at Windy Hill against Hawthorn on Sunday, with the first bounce set for 1:00pm.
