Robert Shaw’s thoughts:
James has reached the fork in the road. He didn't play a lot of strong, grounding football in the under-18s. He didn't have the under age development that a lot of the other players have had. He is nearly up to 90kgs and he came here at 76kgs. He is a big, strong boy and has some glaring weaknesses in his game, but these can be largely eliminated by playing more games. He has enormous pace, which we need and just need to keep persisting.
What some of fan’s had to say:
Unfortunately not able to make the transition to Senior AFL level. Hopefully will get rookie listed and therefore a chance to prove his worth. Rod Ansell
I haven't seen enough of James to comment in any depth. Obviously he has ability, but he hasn't made the most of what chances he has had. Richard Rowe
Just seems to struggle to find the footy. Has great pace, but needs a lot of work everywhere else. Paul Mazziotta
I feel James Davies has got plenty of potential of being a great midfielder, however could never impress anyone in the senior side. It is a real shame because he certainly has got a good football brain and I hope he can succeed at another club. Karen Murphy
Did nothing again this year, has never looked at home on the field. The decision to delist him was the right one. Geoffery Heffernan
I hope the club redrafts Davies as a rookie. I hate when first round picks are wasted because the player doesn't make it. I've always seen Davies in the Bolton mould - super athlete with height and pace who takes a while to learn the game and make a contribution. Perhaps he doesn't work as hard as Bolton, but with two years on a rookie list he could learn and take the time to develop. Damon Beckwith
Never seemed overly committed when playing. Had the skills but maybe not the desire to play AFL. Graeme Durran
Disappointing year for Davies who didn't really find his place in the team at his time at Windy Hill but will hopefully find a new club after being delisted. Steven McNaught
