Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy said it was time for the Bombers to regain some respect in Perth when they take on Fremantle at Subiaco Oval this Sunday. Essendon last won in Perth in Round 21, 2001 and its overall record in recent times hasn’t been great. “Fremantle was playing well against us last time before Hird and Lloyd got injured so that wasn’t the difference. We need to go back to Perth and earn some respect to be quite honest,” Sheedy said.

“There are many reasons why we have struggled in the past but we have no excuses this time around. We have got to go over there and take the form from Anzac Day with us and not leave it in Melbourne. We played last Friday so we will have had plenty of rest. There is no excuse for us not playing well this weekend,” Sheedy said.

Essendon was soundly beaten last time it travelled to Subiaco to play Fremantle in Round 6 last season. Fremantle won by 27-points. The Dockers were best served by Peter Bell, Leigh Brown, Matthew Pavlich, Troy Simmonds, Graham Polak and Jeff Farmer. Joe Misiti, Jason Johnson and Mark McVeigh were the best players in a lacklustre Essendon performance.

“They are really developing and looking at new players. Players like Dion Woods and Robert Haddrill have been very good recently. One of the best players on the ground last time we played was Brown and he has been cleared to the Kangaroos so we are happy about that. Tactically they played well last year and we have to make sure we are switched on in that area,” Sheedy said.
