VFL Senior Coach Leigh Tudor assesses the performances of our 13 AFL-listed Dons from the close loss to Williamstown.

Elijah Tsatas

23 disposals, seven tackles, seven clearances

Elijah had his work cut out with two players putting a heavy tag on him this week and he stood up to really earn his possessions. In a tough learning game, it was good to see him hold his own against that kind of heat, winning his own ball and getting some nice results defensively with his tackling.

Sam Weideman

24 disposals, 13 marks

Sam played in the backline on Williamstown’s best forward and he did a really good job to keep him goalless. Defensively, he took some big contested marks, got a hand in with some key spoils and competed really well. It was obviously a bit of a positional change for him, so it was really pleasing to see him play an excellent game.

Massimo D’Ambrosio

28 disposals, five marks, four tackles

‘Mass’ got a lot of the ball and really helped us with our movement. He had eight rebound 50’s and worked really hard on the run, but we loved his defensive pressure, laying some big tackles. It was a really good all-round game from him.

02:03

Alwyn Davey Jnr

14 disposals, eight tackles, four clearances

Alwyn is using his speed really well again on both sides of the ball. He really enjoys tackling and the defensive areas of the game, but still won his own ball in the middle and set up a few goals for us with his run and carry. Another really good game from him.

Rhett Montgomerie

18 disposals, eight marks

Rhett was solid again. He’s having a really consistent year down back, competing hard in the air and managing to join in the attack when needed. He’s getting a good balance on when to fly for his marks which he does well, but also knowing when to spoil as well.

Alastair Lord

17 disposals, three marks, one goal

‘Lordy’ is in good form at the moment. He’s gaining the confidence to drive his legs and really take the game on from half-back, and he kicked another nice running goal this weekend by being assertive on the intercept. He’s defending well and getting proactive, so we were happy with his game.

Pat Voss

14 disposals, five tackles, two goals

‘Vossy’ kicked a couple and provided a big presence for us in the air. He missed a couple of opportunities, but you just know how hard he’s going to compete for us on the defensive end, making defenders aware that he’s around. We love what we’re getting from him at the moment.

01:00

Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti

Seven disposals, nine tackles, three clearances, one goal

‘Walla’s pressure at VFL level is just outstanding. His speed and ability to know when to come off his man to tackle creates so many turnovers for us. He had a little run on-ball and set up a couple of goals for us with smart decisions by foot, so he’s getting some good results for his hard work at the moment.

Tex Wanganeen

12 disposals, four tackles, three clearances, one goal

Tex played primarily forward with some midfield time and kicked a really nice goal off an intercept mark. He loves to apply pressure and cause turnovers, but we also know he’s generally a smart decision maker and we like how many opportunities he’s creating for us.

Lewis Hayes

13 disposals, five marks

Another solid game for ‘Hayesy’. He’s defending well and fitting in nicely with the brand for our back six, marking strongly and balancing it out with good spoiling. He’s competing really hard against more experienced opponents.

Anthony Munkara

Eight disposals, two goals

Anthony is such a creative forward, and he’s showing why he’d be hard to play on. He’s always dangerous when he’s inside 50, and he’s starting to extend his game by getting to more contests by providing pressure and defending the way we want him to. A couple of goals were good reward for him this week.

Cian McBride

Eight disposals, four marks, three tackles

Cian is competing hard for us in defence, looking strong physically in the contest and playing a solid team role back there. I’m really liking his game at the moment.

Kaine Baldwin

Six disposals, four marks, one goal

Kaine presented really well as a forward this week and took a couple of strong marks. It was a little bit of a readjustment for him, being the first time this year he’s played forward, but he’s a smart player who judges the flight of the ball well and competes hard. He’s only going to get better for us wherever he plays.
